NEW DELHI: Bharti Airtel, India’s largest telecom operator, has started offering free 4G data to its postpaid customers under its ‘Airtel Surprise’ offer.

The telco is offering upto 30 GB free 4G data to its postpaid users through MyAirtel app. Airtel postpaid users can avail the free data by clicking on the banner ‘claim free data’.

"We are celebrating your brand Airtel being declared India’s fastest mobile network. Coming from the world’s largest and most credible speed test organization, Ookla, this is no mean feat. You know our celebrations would be incomplete without you. And we want to thank our valued postpaid customer, you, for being part of our journey. Because words don't suffice, we would like to give you an Airtel Surprise," Gopal Vittal, CEO, Bharti Airtel had said in an email to postpaid customers.

"We hope the years to come bring with them more milestones that we cross together and many more moments that help strengthen our bond. I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family on the festive occasion of Holi. Go ahead, claim your Airtel Surprise and share the celebrations with your loved ones," he added.

In a bid to counter Reliance Jio, Airtel has come up with new revamped plans to offer 1 GB 4G data per day bundled with unlimited calls.

Airtel's Rs 345 plan now offers 1GB of 4G data per day along with local and STD voice calls free per month. This 1GB data will be available as 500MB on day time and 500MB on night hours.

The telco has also modified Rs 145 plan, which now offers unlimited Airtel to Airtel calls (local+national) and 2GB of data with a validity period of 28 days.

Airtel’s ‘Surprise offer’ gives out free 30GB data; social media is obviously doing the dance

As promised, Airtel rolled out a surprise offer for its postpaid customers on Holi, that is March 13. Under the offer, users got 30GB of free data for three months, which means 10GB data each month, which will be in addition to your monthly data subscription. All a user needs to do for this is go up to their My Airtel app, and they would see a banner right on top of the home page, which says claim your Surprise offer. When you tap on that, you get total 30GB data each month. However, to avail the same, it is essential for a user to share that link on their Facebook or Twitter accounts, by tapping on the respective icons at the end of the page. You can claim the offer til March 31, 2017.

Additionally, Airtel also has a ‘Big Holi Blast’ offer, under which users get free 50 minutes, when they make a call using the Airtel Dialer. This offer was announced last week by Airtel’s CEO Gopal Vittal, who in an email to postpaid users revealed that the company will be offering some free data, to celebrate the recent news of Airtel being declared India’s fastest mobile network. The email read, “I want to extend my warmest wishes to you and your family on the festive occasion of Holi. Go ahead, claim you Airtel Surprise and share the celebrations with your loved ones.”

Obviously, given the necessary demand to share the offer on social media to enable it, since yesterday, Facebook and Twitter has been flooded with these posts.

This surprise offer for postpaid users, looks like an extension of a the ‘Airtel Surprise’ offer, which the network operator rolled out last month for its home broadband customers, to celebrate the 2 million user base mark. The offer gave free additional data to Airtel broadband users, where some people won up to 420GB every month for life!

Quite evidently, Airtel certainly revamping its efforts to keep up with Jio’s offers freebies. Reliance Jio recently announced its new Prime membership program which is set to go live on April 1, right after the Happy New Year offer ends on March 31. The registrations for Jio Prime membership have already begun and it comes with a yearly subscription fee of Rs 99. Jio Prime members will essentially get double benefits of data on normal packages available now. For example, Jio Prime members on a recharge of Rs 303 will get additional 1GB of 4G data daily for 28 days bringing down the total cost to around Rs 10 per day.
