In less than ten days since the first leak, the BlackBerry Aurora has been officially launched by BB Merah Putih. The company holds the license for manufacturing and selling BlackBerry-branded smartphones in Indonesia and hence, the smartphone is exclusive to the country. Priced at Rs IDR 3,499,000 (Rs approximately Rs 17,500), the smartphone is available in color choices of black, silver, and gold. It will be up for pre-order till March 12 at various online e-commerce sites in Indonesia.

BlackBerry Aurora features, specifications
The BlackBerry Aurora features a 5.5-inch HD (720p) display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. There is also 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. For photography, it comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera along with an 8-megapixel front snapper. Keeping the smartphone ticking is a 3,000mAh battery, which is claimed to offer backup up to 30 hours.

On the software front, the BlackBerry Aurora runs the newer Android 7.0 Nougat. Interestingly, the smartphone is not only the first BlackBerry-branded device to be produced in Indonesia, but is also the first ever BlackBerry device to come with dual-SIM 4G LTE support. Other features include preloaded BlackBerry Hub that gives a unified messaging inbox and DTEK by BlackBerry that offers more privacy and security.

While BB Merah Putih is responsible for Indonesia-specific BlackBerry-branded devices, for other markets TCL holds the license to build and sell the smartphones. In December last year, TCL made the official announcement that going forward, it will design and build smartphones with BlackBerry’s branding. TCL had already partnered with BlackBerry for its Android-powered smartphones, the DTEK50 and DTEK60.

While the BlackBerry Aurora is unlikely to make it to the international markets, at the recently concluded Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the BlackBerry KEYone smartphone was launched. The smartphone is said to be BlackBerry’s last in-house developed smartphone.

Powered by Android 7.0 Nougat, the BlackBerry KEYone features a 4.5-inch 1620×1080 IPS LCD display with aspect ratio of 3:2 and pixel density of 433ppi. Under the hood, it is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.5GHz and paired with Adreno 560 GPU and 3GB of RAM. It includes 32GB of onboard storage which is expandable up to 2TB via microSD.

The smartphone keeps BlackBerry’s iconic QWERTY keypad intact and is priced at $549 (approximately Rs 36,500). Interestingly, the smartphone was recently spotted on an Indian retailer’s website with a price tag of Rs 39,999. There’s, however, no word yet on when BlackBerry plans to officially launch the smartphone in India.
