General News Facebook Stories replaces Messenger Day as one feature

Facebook successfully copied Snapchat’s prime Stories feature for its products – Instagram and WhatsApp. It later introduced Stories on the main app itself, and also on Messenger as Messenger Day. Facebook Stories, however, hasn’t garnered enough attention like its byproducts. Facebook recently allowed cross-posting Instagram Stories on the main app. Similarly, Facebook is now merging its Stories and Messenger Day into one.

Previously, Stories posted on Facebook and Messenger would appear separately since each function as different apps. This didn’t make much sense as both the apps have the same users, except for those who use it strictly as a messaging app. Both the platforms also feature Stories that disappear after a 24-hour limit. With this new integration called “Stories”, photos and videos posted will appear on Facebook and Messenger as well.

Facebook says that the reason behind this decision was because people “would often share on Facebook or Messenger, save the photo or video, and then post to the other”. Now, all photos and videos posted on Stories will be available for the same audience on Facebook and Messenger to view. Since Stories will be synced on both platforms, viewing a post on one will appear as viewed on the other as well. So you need not view the same Story on both Facebook and Messenger.

However, Stories on Facebook and Messenger will differ in terms of the features available. Messenger’s camera comes with face filters like Snapchat’s and colored wallpapers for text status as seen on WhatsApp. However, Facebook’s camera for Stories comes with more features. The face filters are quite advanced as they come in collaborations with Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Taylor Swift, The Walking Dead, among others. There are also many other effects and artwork filters available. Facebook also allows going Live using its Stories camera.
