Kerala High Court has lifted the ban imposed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on cricketer S Sreesanth. The seamer was charged earlier for his involvement in the spot fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was banned in September 2013 for his alleged spot fixing in the IPL and he was charged alongside two of his Rajasthan Royals teammates, Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan. However, he was acquitted in the spot-fixing case in July 2015.

The latest development comes as a relief to the bowler who has been fighting for justice since the acquittal but BCCI continued to hold out and didn’t lift the life ban imposed on him. In a hearing in May, Kerala HC sought BCCI’s stand on the plea filed by Sreesanth which challenged the life ban.

After the judgement on Monday, S Sreesanth wrote on Twitter, “God is great..thanks for the all the love and support”.

BCCI to appeal Kerala HC verdict lifting Sreesanth's life ban

Bengaluru, August 11; The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will appeal against the Kerala High Court order that lifted life ban on S Sreesanth.

After the HC ruling on Monday, Sreesanth, 34, said he was hoping to get his career back on track. But the BCCI official said: "We don't agree with the order. It definitely needs to be challenged and within a week the appeal will be filed in the Kerala High Court.

"We were always clear on this case as the board is firm on its zero tolerance policy on corruption and match-fixing," he said.

Sreesanth and two other Rajasthan Royals players - Ajit Chandila and Ankeet Chavan - were banned for life over their alleged involvement in betting and spot-fixing during 2013 edition of the Indian Premier League.

Criminal charges were later dropped by a trial court, but the players remained banned for breaching the BCCI's code of conduct. Sreesanth, who is 13 short of 100 Test wickets, has played 27 Tests and 53 one-day internationals since making his debut in 2005.
