HBO US unveils 2011 lineup of films , miniseries
#1
US broadcaster HBO has unveiled its lineup of films and miniseries for 2011.

HBO Films president Len Amato says, "HBO Films has long been the home for the kind of pedigreed projects we have in our upcoming slate and we look forward to sharing these extraordinary productions - The Sunset Limited, Cinema Verite and Hemignway and Gellhorn - with our audiences."

The line up will also include the Todd Haynes and Kate Winslet starrer Mildred Pierce. Directed by Todd Haynes, Mildred Pierce is the epic story of a proud single mother struggling to earn her daughter's love during the Great Depression in middle-class Los Angeles.

Says HBO Miniseries president Kary Antholis, "Todd Haynes, Kate Winslet and the rest of the team are creating a miniseries in five parts that is at once lush, appealing and searingly resonant in the current American economic landscape."

Oscar winner Tommy Lee Jones and Oscar nominee Samuel L Jackson will star in HBO Films' The Sunset Limited, based on the play of the same name by eminent Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Cormac McCarth. Directed and executive produced by Jones from a script by McCarthy, this is a two-character drama that tells the story of a stranger who saves another man from throwing himself in front of the Sunset Limited, a Harlem subway train.

Secluded in the apartment of the rescuer, the two men from vastly different backgrounds engage in an intense exchange of ideologies as they debate the value of their existence.

Diane Lane, Tim Robbins and James Gandolfini star in Cinema Verite. The film has been made by Oscar nominees Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini. The HBO Films presentation takes a behind-the-scenes look at the groundbreaking documentary An American Family, which chronicled the lives of the Louds in the early 1970s and catapulted the Santa Barbara family to notoriety in the creation of a new television genre - the reality TV series.

The film also stars Patrick Fugit, Lolita Davidovich, Kathleen Quinla, Shanna Collins and Thomas Dekker.

Nicole Kidman and Clive Owen star in HBO Films' Hemingway and Gellhorn. Directed by Philip Kaufman from a script by Jerry Stahl, the film follows the tumultuous romance and subsequent marriage between literary master Ernest Hemingway and up-and-coming war correspondent, Martha Gellhorn, taking them to the Spanish Civil War and beyond.

As she grew in reputation and stature, Gellhorn stood toe-to-toe with Hemingway, putting his famous bravado and iconic style to the test. Filming will begin in and around San Francisco in February 2011 and will air in 2012 on HBO.
