Nepal’s first direct-to-home television, Home TV, launched commercial operations on Wednesday. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, D.B. Sherchan, chairperson of Home TV, said, “We have made history for being the first company to successfully launch DTH service to the people of Nepal. Now everybody, irrespective of their location, can have equal and quality access to information and entertainment."

Home TV’s brand ambassador, Manisha Koirala added, “It is an honour to be associated with Home TV’s

promotion for its being the first to introduce DTH technology in the country. The connectivity will ensure the Nepali populace access to international-standard picture and sound quality. With Home TV, I have every reason to stay at home."

Home TV is a product franchise of Satellite Channel, which provides 80 channels on demand through national and international channels. Customers have to install a satellite dish and set-top box to receive the programmes.

Fourty year old Manisha Koirala is hometv's brand ambassador. It is heard that she was paid more than 1 crore for this role. How much mileage Home TV can get from this yet to be seen. When asked, the general public had mild reaction. This is the first of Manisha's endorsement for any product inside Nepal.
