[Image: Xiaomi-Mi-Rearview-driving-recorder-805px.jpg]

Xiaomi is continuing with its tradition to expand its horizon when it comes to the type of products that it offers in the technology world while releasing updates about the products that it has already launched. Xiaomi just launched a new product for car owners called the “Mi Rearview Mirror driving recorder” which is a smart review view mirror that will assist drivers in things like parking or keeping a track of who is behind their car on the highway while offering other features such as tracking.

According to the product description on the listing page of the “Mi rear view mirror driving recorder”, the device will come with voice controls, a 5-inch IPS display, parking monitoring to warn driver if the vehicle is about to hit something or someone, and the ability to record both the front as well as the rear camera. The company noted that the device will not come with a rear recording camera or even a microSD card. The product listing page adds that users should use a microSD card between 16 to 64 GB storage while being rated at Class 10 for data transfer speeds.

Users can give voice commands to the device for taking photos, starting video recording, and waking up or shutting off the screen. The camera will automatically save the video in event of an emergency brake or collision and Xiaomi claims that drivers can use this feature for reduced safety incidents while driving. Xiaomi has included a Sony IMX323 image sensor with a f/1.8 aperture for better photos and videos at low light. The company has also worked to ensure that there is lower reflection or distortion in the image that the camera captures.

The camera sensor comes with a 160-degree field of view along with six glass elements and nine layers of coating. The listing also reveals that the recorder records the rear video at 720p and it automatically switches cameras from front to back and back to front depending on the gear the car is in. Xiaomi has also added built-in Wi-Fi so that users can monitor the camera and download any clip in real time if the car and the rear-view driving recording mirror directly from its app. The device is powered by a 470mAh battery and it is charged using any standard car charging port.

The device is priced at 399 RMB which is approximately Rs 4,218. The thing to note here is that you will need to buy the rear camera separately. Xiaomi already sells a separate camera. the 70 steps, HD reverse for 99 RMB which is Rs 1,046. Last but not the least, you should know that it is unlikely that we can get our hands on a majority of presumably great things because this product is only limited to the Chinese market at the time of writing and it is unlikely that Xiaomi will bring this device out of China.
