160by2.com which has a registered user base of 6.8 million and sending 57 million SMS every month in association with Idea Cellular started an interactive game that encourages users to use more of mobile phone and less of paper. The registered users are linked to www.usemobilesavepaper.in micro-site which enables the user to send unlimited messages and win Blackberry smart phones in return.
As part of the interactive game, every user get a seed to nurture and grow. By sending 15 SMS to unique mobile numbers per day, the user gets 15 points to grow the seed into a tree. By further nurturing, the tree yields fruits which can be redeemed for a Blackberry smart phone. This green initiative was kicked-off on February 15th and will continue till March 10th, 2010 to connect with millions of mobile users across India and engage them in the campaign. A total of 30 phones are available to be won over three weeks.
World over, millions of tonnes of trees get cut everyday to produce paper, leading to alarming rates of deforestation. One simple idea to save paper is to efficiently use the mobile phone for large number of day to day communication.
