India outshined New Zealand in bowling as well as batting department to clinch first One-Day International win under D/L method at Napier on Tuesday.

Earlier, ace spinner Harbhajan Singh scalped three wickets - Guptil (64), Broom (2) and Mills (0) to take India closer to victory.

Chasing a revised target of 278 runs, New Zealand got two early blows to their line-up when Brendon McCullum (0) and Jesse Ryder (11) could not sustain Praveen Kumar's pace. He sent back the two mighty batsmen in less than 10 overs.

Kumar uprooted McCullum's stumps and removed Ryder with the help of Sehwag pouching an easy catch.

Martin Guptill then replaced McCullum while Ross Taylor came in place of Ryder to pump up the scoreboard for their side.

As Taylor looked to get settle in the middle, part-timer Yusuf Pathan struck to pick him up for 31 and the batsman made way for Grant Elliott.

Soon, Eliott was seen walking back to pavilion when he fell short of his crease at the score of 11. All hopes were then on Guptill and he played as per the expectations.

Guptill (64) revived the innings and played a sensible knock to raise his well-deserved fifty but the heroics weren't enough to make his side float.

Earlier, solid fifties by Sehwag (77), Dhoni (84) and Raina (66) powered India to 273/4 against New Zealand in the first ODI at Napier. After Duckworth Lewis method, the target was revised to 278 for the Kiwis.

In the early overs of the match, rain played spoilsport when confident-looking Virender Sehwag gave a brisk start to the Indian innings with his 23 on 19 balls, along with Sachin Tendulkar on 3 guarding the other end.

Delay in the commencement of the match resulted into reduction of total overs per side. It became a 38-over game and three bowlers were allowed to bowl eight overs while two could bowl seven.

India got an early jolt when Kiwi pacer Ian Butler struck for his side to scalp Sachin Tendulkar cheaply on 20 runs. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni then joined Sehwag at the other end.

Sehwag led from the front and smashed his 34th ODI fifty. But soon the opener too gave away his wicket to Daniel Vettori when he was negating the Kiwi attack at 77 and missed on his deserving 11th ODI century. Ross Taylor took a brilliant catch to send the opener back. Yuvraj joined Dhoni when India was on 121 at the loss of two wickets.

Yuvraj Singh (2) couldn't help much to the side, fell short of the crease and carelessly lost his wicket. He looked unhappy while leaving the field. Middle-order batsman Suresh Raina was the next man in.

MS Dhoni (89*) played captain's knock and with the help of Suresh Raina (66) took India past 200. Dhoni added 29th half-century to his ODI career whereas it was Raina's 10th in the 50-over version.

New Zealand's Elliot broke the fabulous Dhoni-Raina partnership when he removed the latter with the help of O'Brien. Yusuf Pathan partnered Dhoni for the last few overs, played his part well to hit quick 20 runs on 10 balls and India finished on 273/4.
