Advanced Micro Devices announced two days ago, on May 18th, a new version of their popular ATI Catalyst proprietary Linux display driver, for both x86 and x86_64 architectures. With version 9.5, the ATI Catalyst driver updates the software to version 8.612. Unfortunately, this release doesn't bring any new features, only the following improvements/bug fixes:
· Fixed the "Identify Displays" button in the ATI Catalyst Control Center, which failed to identify the primary display;
· Fixed an issue when trying to set up the TV geometry;
· Fixed a full screen gaming issue, for a two monitors configuration and with RandR 1.2 enabled;
· Fixed some TV screen issues, when the Xorg server was started on various ASICs;
· Fixed the "Detect Display" button, which failed to detect the secondary display;
· Fixed a Novell SUSE 11.x 32-bit issue with the ATI Catalyst driver, which could freeze the system when multiple server generations were executed.
The following issues remain unresolved:
· Segmentation fault appears when the Xorg server is started with a secondary hotplugged display;
· The values for the memory and engine clocks are displayed incorrectly by ATI CAL;
· If Composite is not disabled when desktop effects are enabled, video playback corruption will appear;
· On Novell SUSE 11 systems, when the output is disabled, the display fails to turn off;
· Ubuntu 8.10 systems may freeze if the Xorg server is started on surround view.
Requirements:
· X.Org 6.8, 6.9, 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3 or 7.4
· Linux kernel 2.6 or higher
· glibc version 2.2 or 2.3
· Support for POSIX Shared Memory (/dev/shm) is necessary for 3D programs
· The following packages should be installed on your system: XFree86-Mesa-libGL, libstdc++, libgcc, XFree86-libs, fontconfig, freetype and zlib.
Supported operating systems:
· Red Hat Enterprise Linux
· Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux
· Ubuntu Linux
