Adaption of literary works: Hit on TV again
Quality humour is making a comeback on the idiot box with producers turning to regional literary works for good stories.

In the days of Doordarshan, literature dominated the television content and iconic shows like 'Malgudi Days, 'Bharat Ek Khoj', 'Byomkesh Bakshi' and 'Tamas'.

And the trend of basing serials on literary works is seeing a revival once again on the small screen with 'Tarak Mehtra Ka Ooltah Chashmah', 'Lapataganj' and 'Papad Pol - Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya', which will be telecast on SAB TV.

Television Czarina, Ekta Kapoor, who started the trend of glitzy 'saas-bahu' shows, too has turned to fiction for her latest show 'Keshav Pandit', which is an adaptation of novelist Ved Prakash Sharma's novel 'Vijay Aur Keshav Pandit'.

Similarly, 'Papad Pol - Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya', about an ugly man looking for his match, is an adaptation of Gujarati humorist Sahabuddin Rathod's stories.
