IPTV services in India are still in a infancy stage as compared to other digital mode of transmission i.e. DTH services as far as the subscriber base is concerned. Even within the IPTV space, it is the PSUs BSNL and MTNL who are more vocal about their IPTV offerings while private operators still keeping a slow mode approach before launching the services.

PSU BSNL has multiple IPTV service partners including HFCL owned, myway and Aksh Optifibre. Aksh Optifibre now aims to be more aggressive in pushing uptake for its IPTV services. With a fresh investment of Rs 150 crore lines up towards new expansion plans, the company is aiming to bank upon triple play services to not only offer IPTV services but also voice and data services.

It is using the Fibre-to-the-home concept to set up a robust triple play network.

The company is targeting one lakh subscribers by the end of December 2010 from the present subscriber base of 30,000 through its 22 cities of operations.

To expand its sales and distribution reach, the company is roping in channel partners in each city of operation as compared to current scenario where it mainly relies on direct sales.

Furthermore, the company is also geared up to launch mobile TV services after a 3G ecosystem is available in the country. It is conducting trials for the same in alliance with MTNL in Mumbai and Delhi.
