Ajay Puri, CEO, Bharti Airtel - West Bengal and Kolkata, has been appointed as the all-India head for the company's direct-to-home (DTH) business, Airtel digital TV.
Syed Safawi, executive director, Bharti Airtel - North has been promoted as executive director for the East and West regions. This position was earlier held by K Srinivas, who has moved up as joint president, telemedia division of the telecom company.
Puri will take over as DTH head from April 1, 2009. He will report directly to K Srinivas.
Bharti Airtel launched its DTH services as part of its media foray in October 2008. The DTH business is currently a part of the telemedia division, which also houses IPTV, fixed line and broadband services.
The new development comes close on the heels of elevation of Sanjay Kapoor, president, mobile services, to a newly-created post of deputy CEO, besides a change in designations of other key people.
Airtel currently has three business units - mobile, telemedia, enterprise services, including corporates and long-distance businesses.
The company is now increasing its focus on new business areas like DTH and IPTV as it diversifies from being a pure-play telecom company to a communications and media player.
