MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has granted amnesty to 79 players and 11 former cricketers as they decided to cut-off their ties with the Indian Cricket League (ICL).
Also availing of the board’s pardon were 11 support staff like trainers and physios.
The decision to offer amnesty to the players was taken at the BCCI’s working committee meeting in April.
By cuting off ties with ICL, the cricketers immediately became eligible for domestic cricket and would also be considered for international matches once they complete their one year cooling off period, the BCCI said.
These players can now also take part in the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) which has been classified as a domestic tournament.
BCCI secretary N Srinivasan says, "The BCCI, after scrutinising their requests has written to the concerned state associations that these players are eligible to play in the domestic tournaments for this year".
Reetinder Sodhi, Rohan Gavasakar, Hemang Badani, Deep Dasgupta were some players who decided to cut-off their ties.
Erapalli Prasanna, Ajit Wadekar, Sandeep Patil, Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Madan Lal who were assigned as coach to different teams have also decided to come back to the BCCI's fold.
The ICL had earlier announced its next season would take place in the October-November period.
