BSNL is launching IPTV services

BSNL is launching IPTV services in the tricity Chandigarh, Panchkula & Mohali on 06.02.2009. For this IPTV service, BSNL is using equipment from M/s AKSH. Speaking on the launch, Mr. P.K. Paliwal Chief General Manager, Punjab Telecom Circle, BSNL said “BSNL believes in providing world class telecom and technological services to its customers at a competitive price. Our venture with Aksh Optifibre fulfils our mission in providing such services to the subscribers. With this partnership, BSNL would help increase the reach of IPTV to many homes. Aksh is already providing IPTV and VOIP services in Delhi and Mumbai, under an agreement with MTNL. In this service the TV channels are encoded in IP format and delivered to TV using a Set Top Box. IPTV services also include video on demand which is similar to watching video CD/DVDs using a VCD/DVD player. IPTV service helps you control television the way you want. It is now you, who decide what to watch and also when to watch.

All you need to have for IPTV service, is a TV set, a BSNL landline connection with Broadband connectivity. The Set Top Box which is required to encode the TV channels will be installed at the customer end. With IPTV service one can view Indian, International and regional movies on demand with the click of a button, with world class digital quality picture and digital clear sound.

The monthly charges presently is Rs.150/- p.m. in which total of 120 TV channels would be available. It includes prime channels like Star, Zee, Sony, DD, NDTV, Sahara etc. Security deposit per Set Top Box is Rs.999/- which is refundable. The details of IPTV channels are given in Annexure.

As a special promotional offer customer booking for IPTV Service in February, 09 month will be required to pay only 50% installation charges i.e. only Rs.125/- against normal charges of Rs.250/-. Apart from this, he will not be charged monthly charges upto 28th February 2009.
