The public sector telecommunication company of India – BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) is looking to increase the number of its broadband subscribers from its current 3.7 million to 7.5 million in 2009-10. According to BSNL, it is targeting small towns/cities and rural areas to achieve its target of 7.5 million broadband subscribers in the current fiscal.
The General Manager (Broadband), BSNL, Anil Jain told that they are targeting to achieve 7.5 million broadband subscribers. Mr. Jain revealed that they are having spectacular growth in the class A cities, but they are looking for more growth in B and C cities.
Mr. Jain told that they are already providing broadband services at subsidized rates in the rural areas, and they are also talking to vendors for offering bundled subscription at nominal rates.
BSNL’s telecom rivals like Bharti and Reliance are also targeting high as well as mass market broadband subscribers. BSNL[Image: BSNL_2.jpg] operates throughout the country, except the cities of Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and New Delhi, which are covered by an Indian Government-owned telephone service provider – MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited).
