Bangalore, March 19: Bangalore’s Royal Challenger’s owner Vijay Mallya backed the Indian security agencies to provide appropriate security measures during Indian Premier League season 2, after Bangalore’ police commissioner approved the third revised schedule submitted by the IPL body.
Mallya said that the IPL season 2 would pass off smoothly without any nasty incidences.
He said that the country can provide high level security for the League and refuted all concerns on the issue.
He also added that the deadlock over the IPL dates would be sorted out soon.
Earlier, Delhi and Jaipur were the two high profile venues which were deprived of the hosting rights when the third IPL schedule was drawn. Even as the Twenty20 extravaganza awaits the go-ahead from the Central Government to conduct its 45-day mega event, Home Minster P Chidambaram said on Wednesday said that a decision would be taken soon after the Ministry received feedback from the concerned state governments on the revised schedule.
The IPL has fixed April 10-May 24 as the period for holding IPL.
IPL sources said that Mumbai, Bangalore, Mohali, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Dharamshala were confirmed as venues for the event and were expected to get the state government`s security clearance.
Nagpur and Raipur were also being considered as venues but no final decision has been taken yet.
"We are constantly looking at all the options to be able to work out a schedule which is acceptable to the Home Ministry. We are hoping that we can get and green signal this time around," an IPL official said.
