Breaking News : ADTV Activates a New TP

Airtel Digital TV reshuffled some of their channels last night. A new TP is activate now and one TP is deactivated.
New TP Details
11644, H, 24000 - QPSK - DVBS2 - FEC 8/9

All the 7 Channels from the 11th TP (11650-H-14400) are moved to the new TP. No addtion of channels yet..

Good to know that Airtel Digital TV added the new TP and increased the Symbol Rate from 14400 to 24000. That means more channels to be added on that TP.

Yes, we can even assume it as the Same TP, with changes to the Symbol Rate.
However, this TP's modulation is different to the previous one. Its using QPSK (Quadrature phase-shift keying) and the deactivated one was (11650-H-14400) was using 8PSK modulation.
Also, the FEC is totally different to the old one.

I think we can expect some channel additions soon, as all these are some back end work and preparations....... :happy:

Dear AB please make us know :- if symbol rate is increased then that means more channels on the same TP or does that means more video Audio quality or Both

The same question for 8PSK and QPSK :reading:

Thx for raising the Q's. Unless we talk on these subject no one gonna learn or read better. Am not that into electronics and broadcasting technologies.. Smile Though, have read manier times here and there on all these, such as S/R, FEC, PSK, QPSK etc. And am sure many here can shed light more on these.

However, I can say by increasing the Symbol rate they are optimizing the usage of a particular TP'. The same was adapted by TataSky, to resolve the TP' crunch situation being faced by them. Same case with the FEC (Forward Error Correction). But this can only allow to a standard level, as this can reduce the signal strength. I can clearly see that the newest TP' (in the first post), is showing a low signal quality in my tuner i.e. all the other TP's are showing 78% + but this particular TP' is showing 73% and i believe its because of the FEC which they have adapted (8/9) compared to others' (3/4).

And the bottom line, is yes their intention is clear that they are optimizing each TP's to ensure that a TP' crunch does not happen anytime soon. Here are some excerpts from Wiki on Modulation Technology and different methods.

QPSK Basics
The mathematical analysis shows that QPSK can be used either to double the data rate compared with a BPSK system while maintaining the same bandwidth of the signal. The advantage of QPSK over BPSK becomes evident: QPSK transmits twice the data rate in a given bandwidth compared to BPSK - at the same BER.

DPQPSK
Dual-polarization quadrature phase shift keying (DPQPSK) or dual-polarization QPSK - involves the polarization multiplexing of two different QPSK signals, thus improving the spectral efficiency by a factor of 2. This is a cost-effective alternative, to utilizing 16-PSK instead of QPSK to double the spectral efficiency.


Higher-order PSK
Any number of phases may be used to construct a PSK constellation but 8-PSK is usually the highest order PSK constellation deployed. With more than 8 phases, the error-rate becomes too high and there are better, though more complex, modulations available such as quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). For satellite communication the trend is to move to a combined amplitude and phase modulation specified as APSK (e.g. 16APSK, 32APSK, 64APSK). Although any number of phases may be used, the fact that the constellation must usually deal with binary data means that the number of symbols is usually a power of 2 — this allows an equal number of bits-per-symbol.
