Amazon has today launched its new Kindle, and in line with earlier reports , it is indeed called the Oasis. As CEO Jeff Bezos recently teased, this new Kindle is the thinnest and lightest ever, and also feature a new design. The Kindle Oasis will start shipping from April 27 onwards, and it is priced at Rs 23,999. The 3G + Wi-Fi variant, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 27,999.

The Kindle Oasis boasts a rectangular design, with a curved back, which offers good grip on one side. The bezel is on the right or left, depending upon which hand you hold the device, and a built-in accelerometer automatically pivots the display when switching hands. The whole design is focused on one-hand usage, and you can turn pages by either touching the screen or pressing the physical page turn buttons.

But the new Kindle’s USP is its mammoth battery life. The built-in battery is good enough to last about two weeks. If that wasn’t enough, Amazon is also bundling in a rechargeable cover, which magnetically attaches to the Kindle. This cover too features a bigger battery, which is good enough to last months.

There is also a dual-battery charging system, wherein you can charge the device and cover simultaneously when plugged in. When on the move, the cover will keep charging the Kindle’s built-in battery. Amazon is also introducing a new ‘hibernation mode’, which minimizes power consumption and boost the battery life.

Amazon has also updated the Kindle’s software, which now includes more font choices and a tweaked UI that makes it easier to discover new books. Buyers can also choose from premium leather covers available in three colors — black, merlot, and walnut.
