Breaking News : CM to test-ride Metro - BMTC Feeder Line For Stations To Be Unveiled
#1

Bangalore: On Monday, the Metro will take along some special passengers on its complete test run — chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Union minister Kamal Nath, who will board the city’s first train from Byappanahalli depot to MG Road.

On that day, the prototype of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) feeder buses for the Metro — with the theme colour — will also be unveiled. Around 62 feeder buses will serve all six stations of Reach-1, with a regular one bus every 10 minutes. These include 10 mini buses and 52 regular buses, which will travel on a 3-km radius from Metro stations. A total of 20 feeder routes have been identified for Reach-1.

The MoU, to be signed between BMTC and Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) on the same day, is for both the operation of feeder services and the Metro-Bus Transit pass (MBT). This will be a daily pass system, offering unlimited travel on BMTC buses and the Metro, along Reach-1. This, however, will exclude the Vayu Vajras, considering the higher cost of operation.

The daily passes will include feeder rides or one may use the service paying the regular minimum BMTC fare (Rs 4).

The test run on January 24 will be completely closed to the public. “This is just an inspection of the works so far. Nobody will be allowed to move around the station and track premises for safety reasons,’’ BMRC spokesperson B L Y Chavan told reporters on Thursday.

RATE CHART: Daily passes for Metro-BMTC buses along Reach-1
  • Rs 70 for ordinary BMTC buses and Metro
  • Rs 110 for AC buses (except Vayu Vajra) and Metro
METRO FARE

The rates are waiting for the final nod from the subcommittee, and are yet to be announced. Fares will be comparable with those in Delhi and Kolkata — estimated from a minimum of Rs 10 to maximum Rs 15 for the 6.7-km stretch

Smartcards for Metro: Various schemes planned for smartcards are being finalised

FIVE TRAINS FOR REACH-1 Five trains will run on Reach-1, with the second coach, that’s already arrived at Byappanahalli depot, to begin its static tests shortly. The next train is expected shortly and will be followed by the last two for this stretch, in February.

WISHLIST 2011
  • Reach 1: Commissioned and running services
  • Reach 4 and Reach 2 will be 80% and 70% complete respectively.
  • Reach 3 will be 80% complete, including Reach 3A
