Search engine giant Google and Taiwanese hardware and electronics firm Acer have released “Chrome-base for meetings” — an all-in-one standalone secure video conferencing device. The device costs $799 (approximately Rs 52,800) and sports a 24-inch full HD (1080p) touchscreen display, high-definition conferencing camera, four microphones and two stereo speakers, is specifically tricked out for video conferences.

Acer claims that the device has the largest display on any Chrome operating system (OS) computer. Chromebooks are easy to use, have virus protection built in and have a long-life battery life.

The Chromebook do not slow down over time and there are no long load times — just flip it open and get busy doing anything other than waiting. These devices can be synced with Android phones and tablets for on the go operations in case a user does not have the laptop.

The offering is Google’s second play in the video conferencing market. It released the first Chromebox for meetings with Acer in 2014. The Chromebase connects to Google Hangout meetings that can support up to 25 participants. Google says the Chromebase is available in the US, Canada, Britain, Ireland, and Australia and is expected to be coming to other markets soon.
