Microsoft to host 'Windows 9' event on September 30

Microsoft is ready to host yet another big event for the year at the end of the month. The company has started sending out invites for its Windows event in San Francisco slated for September 30. Aimed at enterprise and power users of Windows, Microsoft biggies Joe Belfiore and Terry Myerson will be leading the discussion around the future of Windows.
According to TheVerge, Microsoft is likely to showcase “Windows Technical Preview” at the event. We’ve already seen a string of rumours and leaks showing the new start menu, virtual desktopand even the notification center, among other tidbits. Moreover, Microsoft is reportedly tweaking the icons and making taskbar changes for Cortana usage in the future.
The event is called a chance to “hear about what’s next for Windows and the enterprise”. The company yesterday sent out invitations for the event which experts say will talk in broad strokes about features aimed at corporate users for the next version of Windows, which people are informally calling “Windows 9″.
While the company is all set to preview its platform for developers, some additional changes are expected to be pushed out to Windows Technical Preview users until the OS is ready for a final release next year.
The target audience for the event underscores the reputation repair work Microsoft needs to do in the corporate world. Business-tech sales represent about two-thirds of Microsoft’s profit but the company alienated some corporate-PC users with the 2012 introduction of Windows 8 along with the Surface line of tablets.
The operating software was designed to work best on touchscreen devices, but some corporate-tech buyers said the software did not work well on the typical office-worker setup of a keyboard, mouse and non-touchscreen PC. The software maker, however, is not expected to release preview of its updated version of Windows RT that may include Windows Phone components until early 2015.
