Ahead of the planned upgrade of CDMA service to 4G LTE, Reliance Communications (RCom) led by Anil Dhirubhai Ambani, has revealed a new 4G enabled Mi-Fi device for Rs 2,699. The device was briefly up on the company’s e-commerce portal, rtn.asia reports. However, at the time of filing the story, the link seems to have been taken down. The Mi-Fi device will work with all three bands of LTE services – 3, 5 and 40 – which RCom and Reliance Jio plan to operate.

The e-commerce portal shows the price of Rs 3,199, however, the company is offering a Rs 500 discount after which the price comes down to Rs 2,699. The shipments for the ordered device will start from May 25 and the company will also be offering free home delivery, the website mentions.

The 4G dongle can be used as a replacement to existing CDMA dongle. It comes with a built-in 2,300mAh battery, which the listing claims to offer a backup of around five to six hours.

What’s more, there’s also a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32GB, which could allow users to use the Mi-Fi dongle as a data storage device.

While most Mi-Fi devices allow sharing the Internet with up to 10 users, the one offered by RCom would allow the unit to connect with up to 31 users, the website listing mentions. In terms of speed, the device can offer maximum of 150Mbps.

Starting May 4, RCom will allow its CDMA users to submit their existing UIM cards to get the new 4G LTE-enabled SIM cards. Before switching to 4G, users will also have to choose a new tariff plan.

RCom will be offering 4G LTE service with the help of its network partner, Reliance Jio, which is likely to announce trial schemes over the next couple of weeks. That’s not all; Reliance Jio is also expected to offer its own Mi-Fi devices priced between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,600.
