Breaking News : US officials release videos of Osama bin Laden
Washington: Newly released videos show Osama bin Laden watching himself on television and rehearsing for terrorist videos, revealing that even from the walled confines of his Pakistani hideout, he remained a media maestro who was eager to craft his own image for the cameras.

Bin Laden home videos revealedUS officials have released video seized in the raid that ended Osama bin Laden's life.

The videos, released by US intelligence officials on Saturday, were offered as further proof that Navy SEALs killed the world's most wanted terrorist this week. But they also served to show bin Laden as vain, someone obsessed with his portrayal by the world's media.

One of the movies shows bin Laden, his unkempt beard streaked in gray, sitting on the floor, wrapped in a brown blanket and holding a remote control. He flipped back and forth between what appears to be live news coverage of himself. The old, small television was perched on top of a desk with a large tangle of electrical wires running to a nearby control box.

In another, he has apparently dyed and neatly trimmed his beard for the filming of a propaganda video. The video, which the US released without sound, was titled ""Message to the American People" and was believed to be filed sometime last fall, a senior intelligence official said during a briefing for reporters, on condition that his name not be used.

The videos were seized from bin Laden's compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Officials said the clips shown to reporters were just part of the largest collection of senior terrorist materials ever collected. The evidence seized during the raid also includes phone numbers and documents that officials hope will help break the back of the organization behind the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Intelligence officials have known that bin Laden and al Qaeda monitored the news. But for years, when it was assumed that he was living in Pakistan's rugged, mountainous tribal region, some believed he might not be able to get real-time news.

After the CIA discovered bin Laden's suburban compound, they realized that a satellite dish provided a television feed to bin Laden's compound. The video also reveals that bin Laden had a computer in his home, though officials say there were no Internet or phone lines running from the house.

Bin Laden and four others were killed in a daring pre-dawn raid Monday after US helicopters lowered a team of SEALs behind the compound's high walls. The terrorist leader's death leaves al Qaeda with an uncertain future and represents America's most successful counter-terrorism mission.

Osama's sons say US broke international law by killing him in Pak

Islamabad, May 11 (ANI): The sons of Osama bin Laden have said they do not believe in news about their father's death in Pakistan, and have added that if true, then the US has violated international law.

"I Omar Ossama Binladin and my brothers the lawful children and heirs of the Ossama binladin have noted wide coverage of the news of the death of our father, but we are not convinced on the available evidence in the absence of his dead body, the New York Times quoted the statement," as saying.

"If he has been summarily executed then, we question the propriety of such assassination where not only international law has been blatantly violated but USA has set a very different example whereby right to have a fair trial, and presumption of innocence until proven guilty by a court of law has been sacrificed on which western society is built and is standing when a trial of OBL was possible for any wrongdoing as that of Iraqi President Sadam Hussein and Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic," the statement added.

They insisted that arbitrary killing is not a solution to political problems.

Besides, they said it was unworthy of the Special Forces to shoot unarmed female family members of binladen, including of one of his sons.

They also asked why bin Laden's family, who are widely known to be residing outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, was not contacted to receive his dead body.

His sudden and unwitnessed burial at sea has deprived the family of performing religious rights of a Muslim man, the statement said.

Without agreeing to the ways he professed, believed and operated, we Omar Ossama Binladin, and my brothers, the lawful children of the Ossama Binladin (OBL) herewith demand an inquiry under UNO to reach to the accuracy of the facts as stated by United States into the fundamental question as to why our father was not arrested and tried but summarily executed without a court of law, it added. Bin Laden wanted another 9/11-level attack to force US out of Middle East, says journal

London, May 12(ANI): Al-Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden's handwritten journal, which was seized by US Special Forces during the May 2 raid on his hideout in Pakistan's Abbottabad city, reveals that he wanted another terror attack on the scale of 9/11 to force the United States out of the Middle East.

The Saudi-born terrorist, who had evaded capture for a decade, was killed in a top secret operation involving a small team of US Special Forces in Abbottabad, located 50 kilometres northeast of Islamabad and 150 kilometres east of Peshawar.

The journal was part of a huge cache of intelligence that included about 100 flash drives and five computers taken by a US Navy SEALs assault team after they swept through the Abbottabad compound.

Bin Laden's written record takes readers inside the mind of America's greatest enemy, the Daily Mail reports.

In it, he directed Al-Qaeda operatives to not only focus on the New York City, but also spread their operations to target smaller cities such as Los Angeles.

The discovery shatters previously-held beliefs that bin Laden was acting simply as Al-Qaeda's spiritual leader rather than its operational chief, the report said.

The journal, as well as hundreds of computer 'pen' drives also containing directives, will only add to the heightened threat level across the US, it added.

Among the edicts, one particularly macabre note reveals a mathematical calculation of how many people Al Qaeda would have to kill to finally force the US out of the Middle East - concluding that it would take another 9/11 at least, the report said.

US officials said on the condition of anonymity that bin Laden's diary is filled with planning ideas and details of operations.

Among them are the notes for the potential plots against the US rail system, which prompted an advisory from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security last week.

In the journals, bin Laden tells his disciples that only a body count of thousands, something on the scale of the September 11, 2001, attacks, would shift US policy, the report said.

The terrorist mastermind also schemed about ways to sow political dissent in Washington and play political figures against one another, officials said.

They also said that no imminent plots have been discovered in the journal, which officials have been pouring over since the raid.

Bin Laden has long been known to record his thoughts, but the discovery of his journal is a real coup for American intelligence chiefs.

His son, in a memoir, described his father as recording his thoughts and plans, spending hours speaking into a dictaphone.

The diary may also reveal more about the psyche of bin Laden - his secret fears and terrors, said the report.

It has emerged that the treasure trove of intelligence recovered from the 'safe' house is producing a new lead every hour, it added. (ANI)
