Xiaomi VP Liu De yesterday hinted that the company will launch its first smartwatch in the second half of 2016. But today Xiaomi took everyone by surprise by launching its first smartwatch, the ‘Mituwatch’. But there is a catch — it isn’t exactly a smartwatch and is targeted at parents who want to keep a track of their kids’ whereabouts. The kid’s smartwatch is on sale in China and is priced at Rs 3,900 approximately.

As you can see in the photos, the Mituwatch is clearly designed with kids in mind and boasts bright colors. It features FDA approved silicone straps and sports an LED dot-matrix display. The aim of the smartwatch is to help parents keep a track of their kids and it comes with built-in GPS and an SOS button.

If the kid were to press the SOS button in an emergency, the smartwatch will record a seven-second audio and send it to the parent’s smartphone along with the GPS location. Xiaomi is also bundling in a Mi phone card into the smartwatch with credit worth 10 Yuan. The card is basically for data that will be used for sending GPS coordinates.

Xiaomi Mituwatch specifications, features:

The smartwatch isn’t bulky with dimensions of 18.9×4.0×1.5 cm and weighs only 30 grams. It features an LED dot-matrix display and a 300mAh battery that the company says is good enough to last up to six days.

On the connectivity front, it features Wi-Fi, GLONASS and Bluetooth 4.0 and is compatible with smartphones running on Android 4.2 and above as well as iOS 8 and above. It also supports voice calling along with features like alarm, find watch among others.

The smartphone app for parents also comes with some features that will help to keep a track of their kids. One feature allows the parents to set up a secure zone, and if the kid were to venture out of it, the smartwatch will send across a notification. Another feature lets parents add up to 12 contacts who will all be informed if the kid is in an emergency.
