Breaking News : iSing goes desi, launches Gaao for Indian users

#1
With the number of Indians using iSing, a free karaoke app, going up, King Sing Interactive Entertainment Inc has now come up with an app specially designed for Indian users. Gaao, also a free app, offers karaokes in Hindi, mostly Bollywood, and other Indian languages, besides English.

The collection of tracks is big, covering almost all popular contemporary singers and some veterans too, and the app lets the users share their recordings. As a new feature, it also allows you to sing ‘freestyle’ — without karaoke tracks or ‘bina music ke gaana’.

You can record your songs in both MP3 (audio) and MV (video) formats, using professional voice enhancement technology, and download the songs for free.

‘Tum Hi Ho’ by Arijit Singh, ‘Zara Zara’ by Bombay Jayshree, ‘Mere Sapno Ki Raani’ by Kishore Kumar and ‘Hasi ban gaye’ by Shreya Ghoshal, among others, have been so far the hot favourite numbers with users.

Features

The recording process is easy. Just choose a track from the collection, sing along with the lyrics streaming on your phone screen, and record. The app has some special voice effects like echo and reverb, which you can add to the recording. If you are not satisfied with your vocal track, you can record yourself again, as many times as you want.

Once you are done with the recording, you can ‘publish’ on the forum. Your songs can now receive comments and ‘likes’. The recordings can also be shared on social media.

Gaao also gives a platform to music lovers to make friends and discuss music.

Introductory contest

Gaao invites those signing up to sing duet karaoke with established Gaao stars. There are 10 prizes up for grabs.

The number of “shares” will decide the ranking, with that of ‘likes’ and ‘views’ becoming the decider in case of tie between the final winners. Gaao will, however, consider only the Facebook and Twitter “shares”. There are a couple of conditions — songs must be sung by ‘Gaaoers’ themselves, and illegal and sensitive contents are prohibited.

The top 10 winners will get a Mi Redmi 2 Prime 4G (16GB), a Rode VMGO Camera Microphone Super-Cardio, an Evidson AudioSport W6 Earphones with Mic, an Avengers Captain America Earphones, and six Amazon E-mail Gift Card.

Reviewer’s take

The app is user-friendly, and the number of artistes overwhelming. The collection of tracks is good too, though hardcore music lovers may want more numbers per artiste. Users like me may also like to see more singers from yesteryears. I didn’t find any number by past legends Hemant Kumar, Geeta Dutt and Talat Mahmood. Also, I was not able to download some tracks, though all the ‘hot’, or recommended, ones worked. A downer is its compatibility only with Android devices, as of now, and not with iOS.

Overall, the app looks promising, and going by the feedback on Google Play Store, it has the thumbs up of music aficionados.
