CNBC-TV18 Launches the 'Dream Decade'

CNBC-TV18 has launched a programming series & special initiatives to commemorate this momentous phase in the Indian economy and parallely mark the completion of 10 years of the channel's existence in the country.

Explaining further, Ajay Chacko, Director, TV18 Business Media added "Quite frankly, while liberalisation began almost two decades ago, it’s only in the last 10 years that India has truly come of age in terms of its growth prospects and global eminence. While there is a lot yet to be achieved, at CNBC-TV18, we believe that these 10 years have had a disproportionate impact on the nation's economic future across all aspects and that calls for a dedicated view. Our programming series seeks to highlight that. In addition, through some special initiatives, we’d like to thank our many viewers & believers who've inspired us to be the benchmark business in the country"

By 1999, India had become accustomed to its liberalized economy and the reality that it presented. And while the potential of the world’s largest democracy and huge consumer market was well known, it was only in the last few years that the potent mix of visionary policy making, corporate aggression, global interest and consumer demand led to the rise of India as a star emerging market. While opinions may differ, India’s global ascendance had begun in 1999.Whether it was the clamor of global demand for Y2K solutions from Indian IT companies or the listing of the first Indian company on the NASDAQ i.e. Infosys. While these can be seen as nothing more than symbolic advances, they were symptomatic of an underlying trend and the fact that the world was taking notice of a future economic giant.

Since 1999, a lot of progress has been made across the national economic landscape. Whether it’s the rise of the Indian middle class or Indian multinationals, the telecom revolution or the explosion in personal finance, the potential of Indian retail or inroads into rural markets, the flood of capital flows or the cushion of domestic demand, proactive policy making or strong resilient institutions, India’s achievements in the last 10 years have been breathtaking. This has further cemented India’s growing reputation as the global growth engine and leader of the world economy. While fundamental problems still persist in the economy, from archaic regulatory imbalances to infrastructure bottlenecks, from bureaucratic muddles to governance issues, from economic disparities to remnants of myopic xenophobia, the growth has been exemplary.

These 10 years epitomize this paradigm shift in the fortunes of the Indian economy. It’s truly a phase when India came of age and thus it’s befitting to term it the “Dream Decade”

“Dream Decade" On Air Series – CNBC-TV18 will present a special 5 part weekly series which delves into key aspects of the Indian economy. From capital markets to India Inc’s global moves, from personal finance to policy shifts, this special series will chronicle the fundamental changes in the Indian economic & business environment. Series Starts Nov 28th, 8 PM. Every Sat & Sun – 8 PM.

“Future Leaders Program” – On the eve of its 10th anniversary, CNBC-TV18 has launched the FUTURE LEADERS PROGRAM, a special initiative which will engage with B-school students across the country from now on. As part of this program, in the inaugural year, CNBC-TV18 will present state of the art plasma TV sets to major B-School campuses.

“10 ON 10” - As a way to thank its viewers and partners, CNBC-TV18 has lined up a special ON-AIR & OFF-AIR contest initiative. This contest will involve viewer participation in an interesting trivia challenge and the winners will receive grand prizes, courtesy the channel.

“Best Of” Series – In a special programming initiative, CNBC-TV18’s benchmark shows such as STORYBOARD, YOUNG TURKS, OVERDRIVE & TECH TOYZ will present special “10 Yr” episodes for its viewers.

Apart from the above, the channel plans other engagement initiatives with its trade partners and has also launched a special communications campaign conceptualized by CELL18. Speaking on the campaign, Zubin Driver, CEO, CELL18 added “The campaign’s core thought of “10 years that made me who I’m” celebrates the power of the individual Indian and how he or she has been at the heart of India’s breathtaking ascendance on the global landscape. It seeks to highlight the unique role CNBC-TV18 has played in the lives of Indians as an advisor, a confidante and a trusted source”
