ALLAHABAD: Legal action would be initiated against cable television operators showing unauthorised and prohibited programmes including obscene films. Moreover, if the programmes televised by the channel create resentment among a particular community, the affected person/persons can lodge their complaint with the district administration. The above decision was taken at the meeting of district level monitoring committee on private television operators held on Friday.
Presiding the meeting, ADM (City) Pradeep Kumar said that norms should be fixed on the transmission of various programmes in order to check violation of provisions of Cable TV Network Act 1995 and ensure its implementation.
The meeting was attended by senior officials of the district administration and police department along with eminent citizens also decided that action would be taken against cable TV operators transmitting inflammatory and obscene programmes. In case a cable TV operator is transmitting obscene advertisement the public can register their complaints with the ADM(City), SP (City) and assistant entertainment tax commissioner on their mobile phone numbers so that immediate action is taken against the erring operator.
Those present in the meeting opined that transmission of objectionable and obscene programmes creates an adverse effect on the society and it's the duty of the operators to follow the set norms.
