MUMBAI: Goa's Churchill Brothers leapfrogged to the top of the I-League table with a come-from-behind 3-2 victory over Mumbai FC in a thrilling 19th round tie at the Cooperage ground on Sunday.

Robert Lalthalma struck a brace of free-kick goals to first neutralise MFC's 14th minute lead in the first half and then put Churchill 2-1 in front early in the second half.

The Goan side defender then spoilt his day a bit by conceding an own goal in the 84th minute to help MFC, who went in front through Anees Kutty, draw level 2-2.

However, in-form striker Odafa Okolie, who was till then tightly marked out of the contest, suddenly broke free of the shackles and essayed an on-the-turn shot from just outside the box to give Churchill the match-winner in the very next minute.

It was the Nigerian's 22nd goal of the I-League and could not have come at a more opportune time. Churchill then defended with vigour against repeated MFCs forays to emerge triumphant after an action-packed last 15 minutes.

The victory boosted Churchill's tally of points to 39 and brought them at par with leaders Sporting Clube de Goa, who drew 1-1 with East Bengal in another match held in Goa.

Churchill's plus 24 goal difference, as compared to Sporting's plus 8, helped the former end the day as the table toppers.
