It's raining reality shows on Indian television. Colors, in line with its disruptive and differentiated content, will air the Indian version of Argentinian combat format show, 100% Lucha.
The show, christened as 100% for Indian viewers, is a fusion between fiction and non-fiction and is owned by Endemol.
WWE fighters will be involved in the show, a source says. A popular name doing the rounds is 'The Great Khali' (Dalip Singh Rana), WWE's Indian superstar.
Produced by Endemol India, Colors will air the show by August-end.
100% will have 13 combat fighters and be shot in South Africa. "It will have a mix of scripted and non-scripted format where reality ends and drama begins," the source adds.
100% Lucha originally premiered in Argentina on 1 January, 2006, as a bi-yearly kids entertainment show. But after successfully mopping up ratings, the show started adapting many elements from WWE to widen the target audience.
Pursuing the reality format, Hindi general entertainment channels Sony Entertainment Television and Star Plus are launching Iss Jungle Se Mujhe Bachao (I am a Celebrity… Take me out of here) and Sach Ka Samna (Moments of Truth) to attract new audiences. The other popular reality show currently on air is Rakhi Ka Swayamvar on NDTV Imagine.
