DISH Nepal Selects Latens Cardless CAS Solution to Secure Content and Revenues in Nepal
New Delhi, Delhi, October 1, 2010 /India PRwire/ -- Latens, the leading provider of software security solutions for Pay-TV and IPTV, today announced that DISH Nepal, a Pay-TV provider, has chosen Latens CAS to secure content and revenues for their latest DTH services in Nepal.

DISH Nepal is all set to emerge as one of the leading forces in the Nepal DTH Market with the imminent launch of its DTH operations. Supported by leading groups of the Himalayas the platform is expected to set a benchmark of content delivery and service in Nepal. It is expected that the 80 Channel DTH platform will ramp-up to more than 500,000 subscribers in Nepal and increase the digital penetration to more than 50 percent which would be a first in Asia.

Latens card-less Conditional Access Technology will be supported by STB and Middleware from Indieon and Arion. The subscriber management system is from Du-Software and the combined solution will be implementing first of its kinds applications and business models at a fraction of the costs. The platform will have cutting edge implementations including USB-PVR, NVOD, PPV, Flexible Channel Subscriptions, EPG to name a few.

"We made a conscious choice to go with Latens cardless technology as it helped us monetise much faster at a fraction of the cost in the most secure manner. Latens software CAS has helped us save more than 60% over the lifecycle of the CAS and is probably the only solution which helps us to address piracy issues such as smart-card sharing," said Mr.Laxmi Prasad Paudiyal, Managing Director DISH Nepal. He added, "Latens extensive Support and Development infrastructure in India has meant that the time to turn around applications and STB integrations has been marvelous."

Latens CAS is the world's only DVB compliant software-only Conditional Access System (CAS) designed for operators of cable, DTH and DTT. The cardless technology offers Pay-TV operators a more dynamic and secure anti-piracy strategy at a much lower cost than traditional card-based or embedded set-top systems. Latens' unique CAS protects content across all networks, Cable, IP, DTH, DTT, be it one-way, two- way or hybrid. This allows operators to use a single Latens CAS head-end for any type of network, making it a safe investment for operators expanding their Pay-TV services across multiple distribution infrastructures.

Mr.Rahul Nehra, Regional Director Asia, Latens said, "We are thankful to DISH Nepal for placing faith in Latens for their DTH. We feel that software CAS has finally come of age and addresses the main pain points of operators including piracy, smartcard sharing, logistics and replacement which helps reduce operating expenditure for the operator and protects revenues."
