If we are not alone, who, or what else, is out there? What would a sunrise look like on another planet? What dangers do comets, asteroids and meteorites pose for the human race? What do aliens look like and will we ever find them? These and many more such mysteries have continued to fascinate the mankind for ages and curiosity still prevails to know more about them.

Discovery Science caters to some of these curiosities in its new series SOLAR EMPIRE – a tour of the outer planets to delve into the secrets of the solar system. The six-part series SOLAR EMPIRE will air on Discovery Science every Thursday at 8:30 pm starting December 1st.

Commenting on the series, Rahul Johri, senior vice president & general manager, India, Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific said, “Through this series, Discovery Science showcases some breathtaking visuals and demystify facts about our solar system. A deep exploration of universe, the series, Solar Empire delves into all those anonymities which have invariably ruled human minds over centuries.”

Packed with high-quality computer animation, SOLAR EMPIRE takes viewers on a guided tour of the Earth’s solar system. The series helps to learn about each planet, experience sunrise and view formation of sun like stars. Featuring breathtaking cosmic photography, the series highlights the work of pioneering scientific spacecraft such as Mariner and Voyager I and II. This series also highlights some seminal work done by eminent people, like Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered Pluto in 1930, Eugene Shoemaker, the comet expert and Dr. Alan Hale, the astronomer who co-discovered Comet Hale-Bopp. Besides, many other renowned scientists and university astronomers also feature in this series to showcase their work and future explorations.

SOLAR EMPIRE unveils facts about comets, asteroids and meteorites that fascinate us and how these celestial bodies bring peril to the human race. Highlighting recent solar incidents, the programme probes various belief systems, be it the ancient Indian belief system concerning solar and lunar eclipse by focusing on the 1996 total solar eclipse experienced in India; or the 1997 Cassini Mission, which is used to reveal the secret of not only the glowing rings, but also probes Saturn’s tantalising earth-like moon, Titan. The programme tours Uranus’ moon Miranda, the solar system’s weirdest wonder; and Neptune’s moon Triton, that spurts geysers twenty miles into space. SOLAR EMPIRE highlights the past, present, and future of space exploration, also featuring the ultimate goal of establishing a human colony on Mars.
