Indian DTH operator Dish TV has launched the Dish SMRT Stick in India. The Dish SMRT Stick is essentially a USB Wi-Fi dongle which offers users access to OTT apps and a library of online videos, Catch-Up TV shows and Web-series. The Dish SMRT Stick will be priced at Rs 599 with a free preview of 6 months.

To access content through WiFi on your TV, users will have to connect their Dish NXT HD set-top boxes to a WiFi network. This is done by plugging in the Dish SMRT Stick which can be connected into a USB port of set-top box, allowing internet access to your old set-top box.

Dish says users will have to have an internet connection with a minimum speed of 1 Mbps or above and the SMRT Stick has been tested working with all major ISPs in India. The WiFi dongle will offer access to Hungama Play, Zee5 and SonyLiv with Voot and AltBalaji to be made available in the near future. Besides that, users will be able to access online videos available under most-watched categories such as Entertainment, Kids Video and more.

Dish TV is offering a 6-month warranty for the Dish SMRT Stick and will replace the device in case of failure. The company has made it clear that the WiFi dongle can only be used with a DishNXT HD set-top box and can’t be connected to any other devices. While most of the applications will be available as freemium, users will have to additionally pay for an app that offers premium content.

The Dish SMRT Stick can currently be pre-booked on the DishTV website across 76 cities in India which include Agra, Ahmednagar, Ahmedabad, Ajmer, Aligarh, Allahabad, Alwar, Ambikapur, Amritsar, Aurangabad, Azamgarh, Bangalore, Barddhaman, Bareilly, Bharuch, Bhilai, Bhiwadi, Bhopal, Birbhum, Chandigarh, Chennai, Chittoor, Cuddapah, Cuttack, Dadri, Datia, Etawah, Faizabad, Faridabad, Gandhinagar, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida, Gurgaon, Guwahati, Gwalior, Hooghly, Howrah, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jamnagar, Jhansi, Jind, Jodhpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ludhiana, Mathura, Medinipur, Mohali, Moradabad, Mumbai, Nadia, Nagpur, Nashik, Navi Mumbai, New Delhi, Noida, Panipat, Patna, Pimpri Chinchwad, Pune, Raipur, Rajkot, Ratlam, Ratnagiri, Rohtak, Saharanpur, Sonepat, Surat, Thane, Udaipur, Vadodara, Varanasi and Visakhapatnam.
