DTH News : 'Emerging' India at IPL-4
Advertisement
#1
Paul Valthaty: He was a virtual unknown before he scored the first century of IPL-4 against Chennai Super Kings in Mohali on April 13, 2011. Valthaty smashed a 63 ball-120* with 19 boundaries and two sixes as he single-handedly led Kings XI Punjab's run chase of 189. In the next match against Deccan Chargers, Valthaty proved his knock against CSK wasn't a flash in the pan as he came up with an all-round performance taking 4-29 and then scoring 75 in just 47 balls as he overshadowed the legendary Adam Gilchrist as KXIP recorded their second consecutive win.

Ambati Rayudu: The impressive batsman, who also doubled up as wicket-keeper, was one of the reasons behind Mumbai Indians' run to the final in IPL-3. With back-to-back 50s against Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kochi Tuskers Kerala in IPL-4, Rayudu has continued his good form with the bat from last season.

Iqbal Abdulla: He is not only the leading wicket-taker for Kolkata Knight Riders, but Abdulla has also impressed with his crafty slow left-arm orthodox bowling, which has left some batsmen clueless. For the record, Abdulla has taken five wickets at an average of 16.40 and economy rate of 6.30 after KKR's first four matches in IPL-4.

Venugopal Rao: The former Deccan Chargers and India batsman has proven himself to be one of the few smart buys Delhi Daredevils made in the IPL-4 auction. Rao is not only the leading run-scorer with 117 runs at a strike rate of 137.64 after the Daredevils' first three matches, but is also a vital cog in their middle-order and has fulfilled that role brilliantly so far in IPL-4.

Bharat Chipli: Royal Challengers Bangalore's loss has turned out to be Deccan Chargers' gain as Chipli has already turned in two good performances for his new team. His highest score in IPL-4 after DC's first four matches is a 35-ball 61 against RCB and he looks to be gaining in confidence as the tournament goes on.

Ashok Menaria: The young southpaw played an important role in Rajasthan winning the Ranji Trophy 2010-11, and Menaria has shown glimpses of his undoubted talent in the three innings he has played for Rajasthan Royals in IPL-4. An attacking batsman, Menaria will need to be at his best for the Royals in IPL-4
