DTH News : TV makers heighten sales campaign ahead of cricket World Cup

While Sony India has tied up with Bharti airtel to boost the sales of its Bravia LCDs during the season, LG today launched a new campaign "Lead 11" as part of the promotional activities during the ICC cricket world cup, which will kick off on February 19.

"With World Cup being broadcast in High Definition for the first time, it will certainly gain further momentum in the Indian market. We have partnered with Airtel to provide free Airtel HD DTH connection on purchase of Bravia TV," Sony India General Manager (Marketing) Tadato Kimura said.

Under the partnership, customers purchasing Sony Bravia can get an airtel digital TV HD connection by recharging certain additional amount.

Korean consumer durables giant Samsung is also betting big on the flat panel sales during the cricket season and has launched zero per cent finance offers as well as a dish TV set top Box free with every flat panel TV.

"The bouquet of HD channels being made available to consumers by Dish TV will provide them the rich experience of HD as never before," Samsung India Deputy Managing Director R Zutshi said.

He said Samsung is looking at a 100 per cent jump in its flat panel TV sales in the first six months of the present year compared to the same period last year on the back of promotional activities during the IPL and the World Cup.

Another Korean consumer durables major LG, which is also the official global partner of ICC, has also kicked off new contest where kids would get a chance to lead the cricketers to the ground. The company said it has invested around Rs 10 crore on the campaign.
"We have a long association being the Global Partners of ICC, promoting cricket among its billions of passionate followers. Through the global platform provided by ICC events, we will enhance the joys of cricket with our own innovative programmes and campaigns," LG Electronics India Limited (LGEL) Managing Director Soon H Kwon said.

On the other hand, Haier is offering four-year warranty on LCD and LED and expects IPL and ICC World Cup to boost the sale of its televisions by 30 per cent."Haier is expecting to sell 75,000 units of LCDs and LEDs between January and March," Haier India President Eric Braganza said.
