THEATRICAL PICKS Daayen ya Baayen (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1668078/) This little gem of a film by director Bela Negi could have gone unnoticed. For one, it lacks any sort of star power. But this simple yet quaint story of a village schoolteacher whose life takes an unforeseen turn when he wins a luxury car will certainly warm your hearts. TV PICKS 30 October The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443680/) 1.15 pm, HBO From the talented director of Chopper comes this tale of idolization turned into resentment. A young Robert Ford, played brilliantly by Casey Affleck, attempts to join the gang of one of America's most famous outlaws and his childhood hero: Jesse James. What happens when things turn sour? The Hurt Locker (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0887912/) 9pm, Sony Pix When a new sergeant takes over as the head of an elite bomb disposal unit in Iraq, his death-defying modus operandi takes everyone by surprise. Soon, though, the city turns violent and another shade of his character emerges. One of the most acclaimed films last year and an Oscar winner for best picture and director, this film is a must watch.

The Fire Within (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057058/) 11.15am, Lumiere From acclaimed director Louis Malle comes this tale of an alcoholic, played by Maurice Ronet, who suffers from depression and is undergoing rehabilitation in a clinic. Raging Bull (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0081398/) 9.45pm, MGM Featuring what is generally considered one of the greatest acting performances in the history of cinema, this Martin Scorsese film throws us right into the chaotic world of a boxer trying to balance his ambition, temperament and personal life, only to trudge from one disappointment to the other. Robert de Niro essays the role of Jake LaMotta with ease while, Thelma Schoonmaker's innovative editing puts us right in the middle of the ring rather than outside it.
