<img style="margin: 0 0 0 10px; float: right;" src="http://telecomyatra.afaqs.com/images/news/inside_2710.jpg"/>IEEE Standards Association has announced its new Standards Wireless Dictionary application.

The application is a comprehensive dictionary of terms and definitions relating to wireless technologies, and will be available for download on Apple devices including the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad.

Over several decades the IEEE has accumulated more than 3,200 terms and definitions in its constantly expanding wireless lexicon. Culled from numerous IEEE standards, the wireless dictionary database is searchable by keyword, standard number, or can be browsed alphabetically.

Standards Wireless Dictionary app provides complete source citations – a feature that will be greatly appreciated by researchers, editors and students. The search function automatically identifies terms as the user types in the search field.

The dictionary encompasses numerous technology areas including ad hoc networks, broadband wireless access (BWA), SAR measurements, wireless access, wireless communications, wireless local area networks (WLANs), wireless metropolitan area networks (WMANs), and wireless networks security etc.

"The primary goal of this application is to provide easy access to meanings for the terminology, acronyms and jargon used in the wireless industry with a particular emphasis on commercial systems," said Judith Gorman, the managing director of IEEE Standards Association.

The official release of the IEEE Standards Wireless Dictionary application for Apple devices will be at the 2011 International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) on 6-9 January in Las Vegas.

The IEEE Standards Wireless Dictionary application is available at iTunes, and can be downloaded by going to Apple.com and searching under iPhone.

The announcement, however, was silent on the availability of the application on other platforms such as Android and Windows Phone 7, but we expect that to happen soon.
