Riding on the back of higher consumer spending and quest for better services, Direct to Home (DTH) households in the country are set for high growth numbers.
DTH subscribers are likely to double in the next 2 years, up from 20 million at present.
"By 2012, the DTH industry estimates a total of almost 40 million subscribers of the roughly 140 million TV sets in India then," Dish TV deputy vice president Sanjeev Srivastava told Business Standard.
At present, 20 million of the 130 million TV sets in the country have DTH services, while 85 million have cable connections. However, more and more cable subscribers are opting for DTH connections due to competitive pricing, better picture quality and other value added offerings.
Dish TV is the market leader with 35 per cent share, having 7 million subscribers, followed by Sun Direct and Tata Sky.
The country’s DTH space is already crowded with 7 pan-India operators vying for their pie, including Dish TV, Sun Direct, Tata Sky, Airtel, Videocon, Big TV and Doordarshan DTH.
