DIMAPUR, JUNE 9 (MExN): High definition television viewing is finally here in Nagaland. Dish TV – touted as India’s largest provider of ‘Direct-to-home’ TV channels launched its premiere HD set-box in Dimapur on Wednesday, June 9. Deputy vice president of Dish TV India Limited (East), Anindya Sengupta coming all the way from Kolkata formally launched the high-end product in the presence of the local media at Hotel Tragopan.
The HD set-top box, which converts HD signals from the antenna to the TV, comes at a price of Rs 5990. Initially five channels – ESPN, Zee Cinema, Zee TV, Discovery and National Geographic will be offered in the HD format at a monthly package of Rs 150. Taking into consideration the FIFA World Cup, Sengupta said the company will offer viewers world cup matches on ESPN, free of cost during the World Cup period. Other channels will also be available albeit on the normal resolution format. Sengupta said viewers with HDTV already in their homes will experience 5-times better resolution and three-times enhanced sound quality than on normal TVs with the HD box installed. The HD set-top will not be compatible in all the standard-definition TVs. The product will be available in all local Dish TV outlets.
