ECB cancels T20 event

The English and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has cancelled plans to have a Twenty20 cricket league along the lines of the IPL.

ECB officials have been quoted in reports stating the lack of space in an overcrowded English season as being the reason. There are two Test series in each summer, as well as the Champions League in late September.

The ECB says that it is impossible to fit in a new competition without jeopardising the primacy of Test cricket and the interests of the England team.

The domestic schedule was due to include two 20-overs tournaments, including the P20, which was to be played in June and had been designed to attract players from around the world. But forecasts that the two-division P20 would bring in millions of pounds were downgraded.
