Pan Asian broadcaster ESPN Star Sports (ESS) has taken the rights to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Asian Cup for 24 countries including India.

All 32 matches will be broadcast on ESPN and Star Sports networks, with HD broadcasts on ESPN HD. The broadcaster will also air the 16-part series Road to Doha, highlighting teams as they prepare for the tournament, which takes place from 7 to 29 January.

The rights were acquired from World Sport Group. India is taking part in this event along with 15 other teams.

ESS VP programming and production Craig Dobbs says, "With our focused approach and commitment to build Asian football over the years, the property today has a high level of traction and immense appeal across our broadcast footprint with devoted fans across the region following their favourite teams and players. The region’s appetite for Asian football has been showing definite signs of growth, and our plans to enhance the broadcast and interactivity of the matches underline our commitment to football fans, which will provide coverage like they have never seen before.”

Fans will be able to watch the high-definition broadcast of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2011 on ESPN HD. The event will also be available online live and on-demand on ESPN Player, its broadband network. In addition, football fans can catch daily news
and goals from the event on mobileESPN.
