Ahmedabad (PTI): The Multiplex Owners' Association of Gujarat on Thursday decided not to screen Nandita Das directed film "Firaaq" based on Gujarat riots of 2002, citing the ongoing dispute over revenue sharing with filmmakers.
"We will not screen 'Firaaq' as the film distributors are demanding more money from us," president of the Association Manubhai Patel told PTI.
Mr. Patel claimed that there is no reason other than financial problems that the association has decided not to screen the film.
"If the problem is resolved by tonight we will screen the film from tomorrow," he added.
In a reply to a question on whether the film has been banned like other 2002 Gujarat riots-based film "Parzania", Mr. Patel said, "No. No one in Gujarat is aware of the content of the film and there is no ban. 'Parzania' was a different issue as everybody knew the content of the film".
Critically acclaimed "Firaaq's" script is set over a 24-hour span, a month after the 2002 carnage.
