<img style="float:left; margin: 0px 10px 0px 0px;" src="http://www.zeenews.com/Img/2009/12/13/MTS71.jpg"/>The new mobile brand MTS is targetting a quarter of its India revenues from data services in the next three years.

"We are a CDMA player... along with voice, data services are also our key USP. CDMA technology is known for its high quality data services. We would want a quarter of our revenues to come from data services in three years," Vsevolod Rozanov President and CEO Sistema Shyam Teleservices, which owns the brand MTS, told reporters.

SSTL is a joint venture between Sistema of Russia and the Shyam Group. Sistema holds 74 per cent stake in the JV.

It obtained licences and spectrum in 2008 to provide services in all the 22 circles across the country. It plans to offer mobile services on a pan-India basis by end of next year. The company operates in nine circles — Delhi, Kolkata, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand and Karnataka and has a subscriber base of about 2.5 million.

When asked if MTS would bid for the 3G spectrum, which can enhance its data services, Rozanov said, "I am not sure…may be a few circles, if it has to be."

He said the company has already announced USD 5.5 billion investment in India over the next five-six years and USD 1.5 billion has already been invested.

Rozanov said he expects network expansions costs to come down substantially as equipment costs have dipped significantly.

There has been at least 10 percent price cut in the cost of equipment since last year, he said.

The company recently launched high speed data services MBlaze with free use of a few Web sites. With a low tariff of 10 paise for 1 MB download, MBlaze offer speeds of up to 3.1 Mbps.

MTS customers will now be able to use this pre-paid service at very low rates and there will be no roaming surcharges while using data services on the MTS network.

MBlaze will be available in the eight circles MTS operates and will also be available in Mumbai in December.

All MBlaze tariff plans allow free Internet browsing of Web sites such as Yahoo, Wikipedia, Makemytrip.
