Mumbai: After a positive response to the free WiFi service at Mumbai Central station, the railways has finalized 15 other stations where the facility will be extended.

The list of stations, which has been sent to the CM's office, covers most of the busy stations-Churchgate, Dadar (western and central), Bandra, Andheri, Borivli, Byculla, Kurla, Thane, Vashi, Kalyan, Belapur and Panvel-and two termini-Bandra Terminus and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-from where long-distance trains depart.

The list has been prepared by RailTel, the telecom arm of the Indian Railways. CST also has WiFi service, but only the first 30 minutes are free.

The high-speed free WiFi service at Mumbai Central station was provided by the railways in association with Google in January and these stations will be covered under the same scheme. "Initially, the idea was to launch it at 10 stations across the country, but following the encouraging feedback, it has been decided to extend it to more stations. All over the country, 400 stations will be connected," said an official. The number of WiFi users at Mumbai Central has gone up to 1 lakh a week.
