MUMBAI: As part of its strategy to widen its distribution footprint, Balaji Telefilms-owned over the top (OTT) platform ALTBalaji has entered into a strategic partnership with Reliance Jio Infocomm to make its original content available on the telco’s OTT platforms Jio TV and Jio Cinema.
ALTBalaji’s mobile app has been downloaded by 11 million users. The platform has more than 2 million viewers on the web. It is available in over 90 countries. The addition of ALTBalaji content on Jio TV and Jio Cinema will help Jio to offer an assortment of content choice to its 160 million 4G customers.
Balaji Telefilms Group COO and ALTBalaji CEO Nachiket Pantvaidya said, “Our content caters to the Indian language mass audience and is targeted at 18-45 years demographic. The early response to our content has been good and now we wish to be available in all environments where audiences exist and consume videos. We believe that our association with the Jio platforms will help us reach their consumers and let them enjoy the content we are proud to present. Our offerings have a very good fit with the Jio Digital Life eco-system.”
As reported by TelevisionPost.com recently, Balaji Telefilms was in talks with telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to widen the reach of ALTBalaji. The subscription-led VoD platform is already integrated with Vodafone Play app.
“We believe our integration with Vodafone Play App will help us reach more consumers and let them enjoy content, we are proud to preset. We are currently in discussion with other leading telecom operators such as Reliance Jio and Airtel and expect to be live on their networks in the coming quarters,” Pantvaidya had told analysts.
ALTBalaji recently premiered its biggest and most ambitious show #ALTBalaji Original ‘Bose: Dead/Alive’, which established its association with Reliance. ALTBalaji currently offers 14 original shows in different languages across various genres such as romance, mystery, drama, and comedy.
The digital platform also has two regional original shows in its portfolio ‘Maya Thirrai’ (the first Tamil original web series) and ‘Dhimaner Dinkaal’ (the first Bengali original web series).
It also offers original shows children and recently launched short, snacky and hilarious regional stand-up comedy videos in Marathi, Punjabi, and Gujarati.
