Airtel Postpaid Promise: Unused data rollover, revamped family plans, and everything you need to know

Advancing its bid at becoming a digital services provider, Airtel announced its Project Next today. Under the initiative, the operator has decided to revamp its stores, app, and its postpaid plans. While the first two aspects are primarily focused on giving enhanced user experience, it is the new ‘Postpaid Promise’ that will attract more customer attention. Here’s everything you need to know about the all-new features of the Airtel postpaid plans.

Postpaid Promise
The Postpaid Promise is part of Airtel’s new Project Next program which is aimed at enhancing customer experience. Airtel CEO & MD Gopal Vittal revealed that there are currently 280 million subscribers of the network and the new program particularly benefits the postpaid users and focuses on aspects such as data, device security, and family plan sharing.

Unused data rollover
With the new Postpaid Promise, Airtel postpaid subscribers will benefit the most with unused data. Until now, if you were subscribed to any plan where your usage would be lesser than the permitted limits, chances were you ended up wasting the unused data. However, Airtel is now promising users that their unused data will be rolled over onto the next billing cycle. Starting August 1, 2017, if you are an Airtel postpaid user, you will be able to carry forward the unused monthly data quota to the next billing cycle.

One of the caveats is that the rollover feature is applicable on same or higher plans only and does not cover any unused data from top-up packs, booster packs, smartbytes, or pre-on-post data packs, etc. You can read the list of  terms and conditions. For example, if you are on a 5GB data plan and were able to consume only 3GB of it, the remaining 2GB will be added to the existing 5GB in the next month. You can carry forward the unused data even if you are on a family sharing plan. A customer can carry forward up to 200GB of data.

Family Plans revamp
Postpaid customers can use the My Airtel App to create customized plans for each family member. With one parent account, multiple users can be added and each member can be allotted a certain data cap. This is likely to prove helpful for parents sharing their postpaid plans with children who often tend to consume more data. One can also add Airtel prepaid users to the Family postpaid plan from the app itself. Airtel says the new plans also enable savings of up to 20 percent.

Airtel Secure
To help protect users from physical, liquid or malware damage, Airtel introduced new features to its security service. The operator has tied up with insurance companies and functions as a moderator to arrange for a pick up of the damaged device and get it repaired from authorized service centres. USP of the protection plan is that it covers smartphones which are up to two years old.

In case of an accidental or liquid damage, Airtel is offering repairs up to 60 percent of the phone value. The update to the service comes in form of the addition of Norton Mobile Security Service which includes anti-malware protection, phishing prevention and app-powered alerts for users of any malicious activity. It is worth mentioning that Airtel Secure is an add-on service and is charged separately. The protection plan starts at Rs 49 for smartphones priced up to Rs 18,000 and goes up to Rs 79 for smartphones costing above the Rs 18,000 mark.
