Courtesy Reliance Jio, it’s raining mobile internet offers for customers in India. Bharti Airtel has now introduced a new offer for its prepaid 4G users in India. The company has announced that customers who purchase any new 4G mobile handset will get 9GB free 4G/3G data in addition to the 1GB 4G/3G data benefit on a recharge of Rs 259. This basically means that every user who buys a new 4G smartphone will get a total of 10 GB data at the cost of Rs 259.
The company explains that any customer who purchases a new 4G handset will be eligible for the 1GB of 3G/4G data following the recharge of Rs 259 while the additional 9GB of data can be claimed using the recently launched MyAirtel app. Validity of the data quota is 28 days and users can avail a maximum of three recharges within 90 days on the offer. The latest offer was initially launched in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. Airtel has now extended the offer across 18 circles in the country.
Smartphone manufacturers are increasingly focusing on introducing affordable handsets in Tier-II and Tier-III markets where the penetration of internet, especially 4G, is gradually picking up. Airtel is currently the top mobile network operator in India. When Reliance started its Jio services, it did not differentiate between smartphone brands and offered the high-speed 4G service bundled free of cost for the first three months under a Preview Offer, and later extended it with the Welcome Offer. Following the same route, Airtel has also made its offer available across all brands of 4G handsets. ALSO READ: ASCI clamps down on misleading advertisements by Airtel, Tata Teleservices
Airtel’s 4G services are currently available in 18 circles across India. The company says that in non-4G circles, it will offer 3G data to customers with their 4G devices. It is to be noted that customers who purchase a new 4G-enabled smartphone will be able to avail the Airtel offer only within the first 30 days of purchase.
Vodafone, in contrast, offers 10GB of 3G/4G data at a cost of Rs 999. It also offers a validity of 28 days. Idea Cellular, on the other hand, offers same data quota at a price of Rs 996 for a validity of 28 days.
Reliance Jio, which is currently giving its 4G services bundled with new subscription for the first three months, is offering unlimited usage on 4G data (daily limit of 4G after which speed throttles to 128Kbps) across all circles. This basically means, whether you buy a new 4G smartphone or continue using the old handset, the first three months will not be chargeable. However, after the initial offer period ends, Jio will charge Rs 999 for 10GB of 4G data which is inclusive of unlimited night time usage (Reliance Jio defines night time as 4G data used between 2am – 5am.)
Shortly before the commercial launch of Jio services, Airtel had announced its 9GB free 3G/4G offer for new mobile phone buyers. As part of its ‘Super Powerful Offer’, Airtel offered 10GB of 4G data for the price of 1GB data with select Samsung Galaxy J series smartphones. Prepaid users who purchased 1GB of data for Rs 250 will instead get 10GB of data at the same cost. In cities that don’t have 4G, the same offer applies for 3G as well. The latest offer, however, applies to all 4G compatible smartphones irrespective of the brand. ALSO READ: Aircel offers 1GB of 3G data at Rs 24, but there’s a catch
Also, the company introduced a Mega Saver Packs scheme under which it offered 3G or 4G data for as low as Rs 60. But to avail the benefit, customers needed to pay Rs 1,499 upfront. The Mega Saver Packs come in two denominations — Rs 1,498 and Rs 748, and validity of 28 days.
