General News BSNL introduces data rollover option with revised Rs 525 postpaid plan

BSNL is finally bring a feature to its postpaid plan that its rivals have been offering for several months now. The state-owned telecom operator has been at the forefront to challenge private players Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel but its plans lacked one key feature: data rollover. Now, BSNL is revising one of its postpaid plan to offer data rollover option like others.

With Rs 525 postpaid plan available in the Kolkata circle, BSNL offers its users 80GB of data and now, ability to carry unused data forward to the next billing cycle. With the new revision, BSNL is allowing its users to accumulate only up to 200GB of data and the data carry forward is applicable only on the Rs 525 plan. The limitation of data carry forward option to only one plan and only the Kolkata circle is a disappointment.

Telecom Talk reports that BSNL is testing the plan in only one circle but soon plans to launch it on a pan-India basis. BSNL has repeatedly challenged the likes of Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea Limited and Bharti Airtel and with data rollover facility, its plan becomes even more competitive.

BSNL Rs 525 Postpaid Plan: Benefits and Validity
The state-owned BSNL is offering the Rs 525 plan across all the circles where it operates but has revised the plan for the Kolkata circle. The revised plan comes with a 80GB of 2G/3G data along with option to carry forward unused data to the next billing cycle. The plan also offers unlimited voice calls to any network within India and the calls to numbers in Mumbai and Delhi circles will not be charged either. The plan also comes with 100 free SMS per day.

BSNL is known for joining the tariff war late but when it does, it tends to challenge the big boys in the industry. With the Data Carry Forward feature as well, one can expect BSNL to continue the trend by expanding the feature to other plans and then go aggressive with more data than rivals.

The state-owned telco was among the first to offer data rollover option when it offered data carry forward feature to its prepaid users in 2015. However, the service was discontinued due to increase in data consumption. Now, it is bringing the option back for its postpaid users and hopefully, BSNL will expand the option to other circles as well.
