BSNL plans on rolling 4G services in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by end of year with exception of Hyderabad

It’s been known for a while that BSNL has been planning on rolling out 4G services in various parts of the country. Now the company reported recently that it will launching its 4G services in certain districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in August, with plans to expand it to remaining districts by the end of the year.

The Economic Times quoted BSNL Telangana Telecom Circle Chief General Manager V Sundar saying, “4G services will be launched before August this year in a few districts of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on a pilot basis and expanded to all districts in both states by December 2018.”

However, the company also stated that the rollout of 4G services will be delayed in Hyderabad and Secunderabad till March 2019. The delay is happening because the company needs to install 409 4G towers in both cities. Sundar also stated that over 500 4G towers will be installed in Andhra Pradesh alone. BSNL will soon start testing its 4G services in districts of Wyra (Khammam) and Jadcherla (Mahabubnagar).

Besides 4G, BSNL is also planning on expanding the reach of its existing 2G and 3G services. According to Telcomtalk, the company will be installing 186 new towers, adding to its existing tally of 1,100 towers. About 64 2G and 3G towers are also being built alongside the Hyderabad Metro Rail, in order to provide seamless net connectivity to customers, while traveling.

BSNL plans on investing about 123 crore in order to expand its 2G and 3G services. Taking into account only the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana circle, the company’s revenue has dipped by 15 percent last year, bringing it down to Rs 2,115 crore. However, by launching 4G services and interesting plans, the the company seems optimistic enough to increase its revenue by 5 percent in the current fiscal year.
