MUMBAI: Discovery Communications India, which is estimated to make Rs 400 crore revenue annually, is looking to triple its revenue over the next three years through a series of expansion moves.

The broadcaster is planning to launch a Male oriented GEC Discovery Jeet early next year. It is also revamping its kids channel Discovery Kids with fresh local content. The infotainment broadcaster is also planning to ramp up its local programming on existing channels like Discovery Channel and TLC.

Discovery feels that these measures will help the company to increase its viewership base and revenue in the Indian market.

Discovery is primarily looked at as an infotainment broadcaster. To change that perception, the company expanded into sports genre with the launch of DSport. The launch of Discovery Jeet is also a step in that direction.

As part of its expansion plans, the company had also entered into an understanding to buy Sanjeev Kapoor-led food and lifestyle channel Food Food, however, the acquisition was eventually called off.

“We are targeting to triple our turnover in India over the next three years riding on multiple initiatives that are underway, especially the launch of GEC channel, Discovery Jeet and the revamp of Discovery Kids,” PTI quotes Discovery Communications India SVP and GM – South Asia Karan Bajaj as saying.

With Discovery Jeet, the company plans to reach out to 100 million consumers from the 20 million that it currently reaches. The channel will have 5 hours of programming every day. For Discovery Kids, it is working on a new IP which will give it a leg up in the kids space.
